Capture Your Grief-Day 11

CAPTURE YOUR GRIEF 2012 Photography Project
Day 11: Supportive Friends and Family
October 11, 2012 ♥

Day 11. Supportive Friends/Family: Who has been there for you?

For today, I chose to use a picture from Lily's Celebration of LIFE Service and Burial. My best friend took photos that day, even though people thought it was strange. I am so thankful she did because they are some of the only memories I will ever have. This photo was taken during the sacred time that Lily was actually buried and those that love her surrounded her and sprinkled rose and lily petals, tears, and dirt over her white casket and green Moses basket. I think it perfectly captures that raw moment of grief and loss, yet such profound love. It shows a family being there for each other.

The people that have been there for me the most on this journey of grief and healing are first of all my mom, then my brothers and sister, my dad at times, my uncle Tim, my grandmother who also lost a baby, my aunts, my best friend Kala, and so many other friends that I have met because of Lily. Also many people that I am friends with now love Lily along with me and that means so much to me. Since having Lily, I have found that oftentimes the people I would expect to be there for me the most haven't been and the people I would least expect to be there have been. I am specifically thinking of family not remembering Lily's birthday, while old friends that I haven't seen for years have gone out of their way to take something special to Lily's spot on her birthday since they know I live out of state and cannot go myself. I have met many friends in both the online and "real-life" babyloss communities, who have offered much support and understanding in ways others can't.

It has been such a blessing to have people in my life that make it clear they care deeply for my daughter and I. I am so thankful to the Lord for the supportive friends and family that I do have and that people remember Lily, love her, and honor her precious LIFE. Yet, I must admit it has been a very difficult journey without a husband.

  1. I too had a professional photographer that's a friend who took pictures of Noah's viewing, graveside service & memorial service and I am SO thankful for that as the day was a blur.
