Capture Your Grief-Day 18

CAPTURE YOUR GRIEF 2012 Photography Project
Day 18: Family Portrait
October 18, 2012 ♥

Day 18. Your Family Portrait: Take a photo of you with your family, work out a way to incorporate your baby/ies/child/ren who are no longer physically with you anymore. You could hold up photos of them or even just hold their names with you. What does your family look like now? Is it just you left here? Do you have a large family? Is it just you and your partner?

This one was tough for me. I had a hard time deciding what photo to use and who to include. The thing is, I am single and don't have a "typical" family portrait to share.

I definitely consider my mom, dad, twin older brothers, and little sister as my family. If I had a recent photo of all of us with something to symbolize Lily, I would have used that.

Since I don't, I chose to share one of me, with Lily's name in the sand on a beach in North Carolina, United States, symbolizing her. She is my daughter, my immediate family, and it's just she and I. I hope and pray there will be more people in future family portraits. I already have ideas of how I would include Lily. With a bouquet of lilies, with her photo, with all of us sitting in chairs and an empty one at the end for her. A chair for a little girl who will never fill it. Yet how much joy and love fills my heart.

  5. I too am single, and count my parents and siblings as my family. I live in the US and they are in Australia & the UK, so I have no recent photo of all of us either. I have had similar ideas about future family pictures, and know when I go back to Australia at some point I will include the little chair my sister is doing a mosaic on for Daisy. I think your photo is lovely. Hugs xx
