Capture Your Grief ~ Day 10

Day 10: Symbols + Signs
October 10, 2016

Day 10. Symbols + Signs: Do you have a symbol that represents your child? Maybe it is a butterfly, tree, or bird, etc. Share how you came to find that symbol and what it means to you. Do you believe your children send you signs at all? Have you had any? How did they help you?

Today's prompt makes me smile because I love getting to share more of my sweet Lily with you. πŸ˜Š

My days are full of moments where I'm reminded of my darling girl. She is everywhere, in everything.

There are certain things that are specifically "Lily things." Because of her name being Lily, the flower reminds me of her more than anything. Having something so tangible to represent her is incredibly meaningful. I call her "my little flower." πŸŒ·

Roses and lilies together remind me of her too. You see, my middle name is Rose and her name is Lily. My blog is called "Rose and Her Lily." When I see the two flowers together, it reminds me of how we were together her entire life on Earth, how I'll carry her with me the rest of my life, and how we'll be together for all of Eternity. πŸŒΉ

Butterflies are also something I associate with her because they symbolize new life. Her new life growing in my womb was a symbol and reflection of the new life God was cultivating within me. Her life was the instrument used to bring me new life. Butterflies are beautiful creatures with short life spans. Maybe God wanted to speak through how He designed butterflies to be so lovely, knowing they would live a brief time, that it is not length that brings beauty and significance. I believe the butterfly is a reflection of the beauty, depth, and intricacy of Lily's life and legacy. Although the length of her life was short, the depth of it is immeasurable in how it's changed the breadth of the rest of my life. πŸ’–

Lambs also remind me of her! Lambs symbolize innocence and purity, which is the meaning of both her first and middle names. It describes her well. A lamb, rose and lily, and. butterfly are all incorporated on her headstone, along with the words "Forever Pure." πŸ’•

Anything red-velvet makes me think of my girl because I had a Valentine's-themed baby shower where we had red-velvet cake. Every year, we now have red-velvet on Lily's birthday to celebrate her. πŸŽ‚

Lily was born on March 16th, so anytime I see the numbers 316 together, I think of her. John 3:16 especially reminds me of her. I know God chose for her to be born on that date to speak His promise of everlasting life. The day after her birthday is St. Patrick's Day, so seeing all the green at that time of year makes me think of her. πŸ€

Hashbrowns were the main thing I craved throughout my pregnancy. Ironically, Lily was due on March 14th, which is National Potato Chip Day. One of her nicknames is Spud. We have hashbrowns in our little Spud's honor each year on her due date. πŸ΄

As for signs, I don't believe Lily "sends" them to me, but I believe in winks from Heaven, especially to those of us who are looking. It's actually crazy how many winks I get. There are way too many to mention here, but I will share a couple...

One time I was eating at Brixx Pizza with my sister-in-law Kala and when I came out of the restroom there was a chalkboard that people could write on... on the left side, someone wrote "Lily" and beside that someone else wrote "Jesus loves you." Those things side-by-side were especially meaningful to me. A reminder that He doesn't forget my Lily. And He loves us both. πŸ•

My friend Tracey was shopping for a gift for me one year for my birthday. Her eye was drawn to a particular nail polish color that made her think of me. When she picked it up and looked on the bottom to see what it was called, it said "I Lily Love You! πŸ’•

Another wink I thought of... While out shopping one day with my mom and sister-in-law, we went to one of my favorite stores, T.J. Maxx. Just a few seconds after we entered the store, as we were walking through, I glanced over and a pretty shirt caught my eye. Pink lace, just my style. :) I had been wanting a special pink shirt to wear on Lily's 5th birthday and thought this could be it. That's when Kala pointed out the brand name, Lili Rose. Yep, I knew I had to get it then. How special that my eye was drawn to the shirt with that name!
