Jammin' in My Belly

March 3rd

8 years ago tonight, Lily was jammin' out in my belly at the Copeland concert in Chapel Hill. I was only 11 days from my due date and 13 days away from Lily's birthday. 😋

definitely the only full-term preggo girl there ;)

my mom, sister, and I ready for the concert

Here are some photos of me meeting the band:

My friend Laura had her daughter "A" less than 2 months before Lily was born. We both really like Copeland and both went to see their concert in early March 2010. I found this correspondence between us that makes me smile. I want to document it here on my blog. :)

Me: Guess what! I'm going to the Copeland concert here in NC tomorrow night!! yaay! Thanks for telling me about it!
Laura: lol, you're very welcome. That's so exciting! Let me know how it was. =]
Me: Copeland was AWESOME! I got their autographs and some pictures with them after the show...the other bands were really good too, especially Dias Vail! They're really nice too! I was definitely the only preggo girl there haha. And I told them I just had to see them before Lily came! The drummer said I can tell Lily she's in the picture with them. lol. I said, yeah, I'm definitely raising her on you guys! If you meet them tonight, tell them your pregnant friend that saw them in Chapel Hill last night says hello! haha. My mom and sister enjoyed the show too...Wish we coulda gone with you and Nina, fellow Copeland lovers! You'll have to let me know how the show goes up there. It sold out here. They played a good long time and played most of my favorite songs! They are awesome live. Anyways, you guys have an awesome time tonight! Wish I could go again (but glad I got the chance to see them before they split up!)
Laura: ah! I'm so happy! I'm so glad you guys got to go and that it went so well =]. yay!! omg, please tell me that you did not stand up for that entire show...oh my goodness, I could barely make it last night, more or less when I was nine months pregnant. lol. I couldn't stand up for more than like three minutes when I was late in my pregnancy, lol. Also, we missed that other band you said was really good, sadly. But we did get pictures and autographs and we told him what you said! lol. Nina talked to him about it when we were getting our pictures and he definitely remembered, of course. haha. He said that it was really cool. Okay, well. Anyways, I can't remember what else I wanted to say and/or respond to so I might add more later.
Me: No, I didn't stand for the entire show. We found some pathetic little bench that left my back in agony! lol. You should look up Dias Vail. They are so good and kinda have the same sound as Copeland. I'm glad you had a good time!...I'm so glad you brought me up to the band! haha that's funny. So, yeah...I'm due Sunday. I had an appointment today. Lily's 6 pounds, 14 ounces, according to the ultrasound (not sure how accurate that is). I am going to be induced on March 18th, if she doesn't come before then. But, I have a feeling she will. I'm pretty miserable physically and am having all these changes, so I'm just waiting. But, I hope she holds off 'til Sunday so I can go to my friend's baby shower Saturday! ha

Reading this now hurts my heart a little bit, knowing everything I know now... Knowing that if she had been born earlier than I had hoped for, she might be here. Knowing that I was correct in thinking she would arrive before the 18th. Thinking of how perfect and healthy she was until suddenly she wasn't.

Copeland Concert... 6 Years Later

I've posted several times about my favorite band from when I was pregnant with Lily and how I went to see them in concert on their Farewell Tour when I was 9 months gestation in March 2010. Because of this, they will now always make me think of her.

A year ago, they released another album after deciding to get back together and make new music after 6 years.

Well, a couple weeks ago, my sister Emma and her boyfriend, and our sister-in-law Kala went to see them in concert. Hello, bittersweet nostalgia. It was in the same venue in Chapel Hill as it was when Lily was with us. The layout was a bit different after all these years, but it was still much the same. The entire night felt like a blast from the past, driving over there and going out to dinner, going to the concert and hearing some of the very songs they played in 2010. Because it was their Farewell Tour then, I never imagined I'd see them again in concert or that they'd make new music. When my sister texted me a couple months ago to tell me they were coming to our area again, I couldn't believe it. I was so excited... mostly because they do remind me of her and going there was a way to do something I did with her, which makes the memories of her feel closer.

It was surreal being there and realizing how many years have passed and how much has changed. I thought about how I was pregnant the first concert I went to and now Kala was pregnant this time. I remember meeting the band and getting pictures with them and their autographs in 2010 and they said one day I could tell Lily she went to see them in concert. My little baby girl would now be my big Kindergarten kid.

Here are the Copeland concert pages in Lily's scrapbook :)

Copeland making beautiful music
For a little taste of Copeland's music, here is a song from their new album that I like a lot (email subscribers click HERE). The song is called "In Her Arms You Will Never Starve." It is so beautiful and reminds me of the love of a mother and/or a wife... the love I ache with hope and longing to be able to give my own family one day.

These are the lyrics:
"In her arms you will never starve
You will never freeze, and when the world is hard,
you can fall asleep there
in a world of chaos, she could be your silence
The oceans of her kindness, they will pull you under
So fall in. Break through it,
and when you stumble in the cold,
she will urge you onward
And in your darkest hour,
should storms rage around you now,
her love will be a shelter,
and she will pull you under"

A band that reminds me of Lily

My favorite band, Copeland, released their last album 6 years ago before "breaking up." They announced this past spring they were reuniting to make a new album. I've been waiting months for this and it finally released this week. It is my favorite album of theirs so far!

I'm such a big fan that I saw them in concert on their Farewell Tour in March 2010 when I was 9 months pregnant! I got to meet them and got their autographs and pictures with them, which are now in my pregnancy scrapbook. So they remind me of Lily.

at the concert - 9 months pregnant!
with my mom and sister before leaving for the Copeland concert
with Copeland's lead singer/pianist, Aaron Marsh
with Copelands guitar players, Bryan and Stephen Laurenson
with Copeland's drummer, Jonathan Bucklew

The music and lyrics are just so beautiful and make me feel so much, mostly thinking about Lily.

You can listen to all the songs from the new album on a playlist on YouTube HERE.

These are two of my favorites from the album:

Together Again

My favorite band from when I was 18-20ish is called Copeland. I was really into their music from 2008-2010 (so during my pregnancy). The band broke up and had a Farewell Tour in 2010. My mom, sister, and I went to their concert on March 3rd of that year, when I was nine months pregnant! I was definitely the only pregnant girl there haha. It was really neat that we got to meet the band too. I was sad when they broke up.

Here are some pictures from that concert:

meeting the band

I just found out last night that they are getting back together to make another album! They haven't made new music in years. I remember when their last album "You Are My Sunshine" came out in the fall of 2008 and I went to buy it at Best Buy. That was just a few months before I got pregnant with Lily. Anything to do with that season of my life takes me right back. So many bittersweet memories. Copeland will now always remind me of that time, my pregnancy, and Lily. I went to their concert less than two weeks before Lily was born.

I am looking forward to their new album coming out this October. I still enjoy their music, but it sort of makes me sad now thinking of her. I can't explain why my mind thinks the way it does or why certain things make me feel as they do. I am thankful for the memories with her that I have and the things that make me think of her.
