An Empty Chair at Thanksgiving

It's important to be purposefully thankful, to truly take the time in stillness and quietness of heart to thank the Lord for the many, many blessings He lavishes upon us. πŸŒ½πŸπŸ‚πŸ—πŸŒ°πŸˆπŸ‘πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸŽ‰❤️

Just a few of that which I'm thankful for (in no particular order): another day waking up with breath in my lungs, my family... growing up with brothers and a sister, having both my parents and their love and support, my sister-in-law who feels more like my sister than an in-law, my darling 6-month-old niece who brightens up my world simply by existing, having my dear 85-year-old grandmother still here on Earth just a drive, call, email, or text away (yes, she's texting now haha), aunts, uncles, and cousins, friends who are kindred-spirits, including so many of you who are reading, my spunky and cuddly kitty Pumpkin Muffie, living in America and having the freedoms afforded us here, freedoms that much of the world doesn't have and we so easily take for granted, having the liberty to read my Bible openly and talk about and share Jesus, having the honor of defending the unborn, unending books galore, beautiful music, an internship that has turned into a job starting in the New Year doing what I love (it doesn't really feel like a job at all), living near both the beach and mountains, having a safe and reliable car, good food that I have the luxury of selecting, clothes to wear that can be cute and girly, being chosen to be the mother of the most lovely Heavenly flower, the months I had with her and bonded with her, the gift of being a forever citizen of Heaven! What are you thankful for?

"We would worry less if we praised more. Thanksgiving is the enemy of discontent and dissatisfaction." -Henry Ironside

Though pieces go missing, may we still feel whole."
-Sleeping At Last ❤️🎢

She is that missing piece. And no matter how many are seated around the Thanksgiving table, the place where she'd be will never go unnoticed.

Days like today are, and I imagine always will be, bittersweet for me. My heart overflows with gratitude for all the Lord has blessed me with, including the sweetness brought by Lily's beautiful life. Yet, the bitterness of her absence and the empty spot at the table where she'd be sitting is also deeply felt.

Missing you, sweet girl, and longing for Heaven where there will be no more bitter, only sweet.

My friend Emily sent me this photo below with the following sweet message today: "Hello from New York City! I love how people honor Miss Lily and I wanted to join in. I saw this at a store called Bethel and thought it would be beautiful to send to you from my fave city. "Bethel" means a holy place. How awesome is that? I pray this shows you that God knows where you are and is a reminder that she is there with Him waiting for Mommy to get there. Love, Em"

This was so touching to receive on a tough day... and there are roses in the background. :'-)

This Sunday, when more of my family is in town, we are planning on having our Thanksgiving celebration. For today, the 4 of us who were here got delicious meals at Cracker Barrel (my idea.. my favorite hehe). Anyways, when I was sitting in the parking lot after checking out, I "happened" to glance down at the receipt and saw that the cashier who assisted me is named Lillie. :)

This is the one photo I have that was taken on Thanksgiving Day 2009... the one year Lily was here alive. It's my sister and I on the way to Thanksgiving lunch/dinner.

I'm holding all your hurting hearts close to mine in prayer. Here are some articles I want to share for Thanksgiving:

No more bitter, only sweet

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm so thankful for the little girl who made me a mother and for the sacred moments that were spent with her, moments that are now memories (and pictures) that I will cherish for life.

Sharing Lily's Stone With My Cousins

A couple weeks ago when I was in Virginia for Thanksgiving, I got to share Lily's stone with my cousins Daniel and Anna (they are brother and sister). They met me at the cemetery early one morning so they could see Lily's stone for the first time. They both live out of town, so they weren't able to make the stone placement ceremony. It was so special to have them both there with me at once.

It blesses me to be able to talk about Lily with others and share her beautiful stone. Her legacy still lives. It makes my heart smile for other people to care about Lily and want to talk about her.

Daniel and I grew up very close. We are only four months apart in age. His son, Owen, was born just three months before Lily. A boy and girl cousins, going to be best buddies just like we were... almost the same age apart! I sure wish we could see them together...

Anyways, I loved hearing their thoughts about Lily's stone. They both really liked it. Anna told me she didn't really know what to expect it to be like, but she said when she saw it, it was a nice surprise. She said it's so unique compared to any stone she's ever seen. Most everyone I ask says their favorite part of her stone is either the rose and lily or the lamb... I love both. :)

Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving!

There are soooo many things that I am so incredibly thankful to the Lord for... my beautiful home, food to keep my body nourished, a cozy bed, my wonderful family and friends, my cats, the opportunity to study at a Christian University to pursue my degree, being able to share my story in speaking and writing... among many, many other things.

I am thankful for the gift of Lily's and Luke's lives... I am thankful to be their mother.

I hope each of you has a blessed Thanksgiving spent with loved ones.

"O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good:
because His mercy endureth forever."
~Psalm 118:1

"In everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Thankful

"Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise!
Give thanks to Him; bless His Name!" ~Psalm 100:4

It's Thanksgiving Day.

"O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good:
because His mercy endureth forever."
~Psalm 118:1

I thought I'd take a moment to purposefully thank the Lord for Luke and Lily.

God, thank you for the gift of my sweet babies' LIVES. Thank you for everything You did in me because of them. Thank You for everything you are doing in others because of them. Thank You for the amazing plan You have for their legacies, far beyond anything I could dream of or comprehend. Thank You that they are in Your hands and will remain there forever. Thank You for giving me peace and joy in the midst of the sorrow. Thank You for keeping me in Your hands always and helping me trust You no matter what. Thank You for rescuing me. Thank You for fighting for me. Thank You for all You do and for Who You are. I praise You today and everyday, my beautiful King Jesus!

I am spending the week at Massanutten Resort visiting with friends and family in the gorgeous mountains of Virginia. It is one of my favorite places on earth and is so peaceful and beautiful. It's just the rest I need. I came here when I was around four or five months pregnant with Lily, so that makes it even more special. Anywhere I went while she was here is a sacred place and will always be bittersweet...but more sweet than bitter.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Enjoy some delicious food and precious fellowship today with friends and family...and remember to thank the Lord for all the blessings in your life! There are many more things in my life that I am thankful for and I will be reflecting on today. But I pray we remember to praise Him each and every day and not just one day a year. :)

"In everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
~1 Thessalonians 5:18

No matter what your life has held, we are called to give thanks. The Lord promises to work all things together for good for those who love Him (Romans 8:28)...stand on that promise.

All Things Bright and Beautiful
Cecil F. Alexander

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.
Each little flow’r that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.
The purple-headed mountains,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning
That brightens up the sky.
The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.
The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
To gather every day.
He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

This time of year...

Is really hard. Though the 'ber season (SeptemBER, OctoBER, NovembER, and DecemBER) is my very favorite, there is still something about it that makes my heart heavy. I enjoy the changing leaves, cooler temperatures, hope for snow (because hoping is about all I can do in NC), pumpkin everything of course, sweaters, boots, scarves, and holidays.

Thanksgiving is in just a couple weeks and then Christmas (my favorite!) is right around the corner after that. Despite how much I love this time of year, the special holidays are a big fat reminder that there is something someone missing. Holidays are centered around family and joy and laughter. But the little one who should be bringing the most laughter to my heart never took her first breath.

My mom and I ate lunch at Cracker Barrel (my favorite restaurant) today and I was browsing the gift shop as I always do. All the Christmas stuff is out, so I was looking at that. I noticed the "My First Christmas" onesie and realized Lily never got to wear one of those outfits...and this would already be her third Christmas...well fourth if you count 2009, when she was alive, just not on the outside. And I saw an ornament where you make an impression of your baby's handprint. I only ever got a few items to remember my daughter and an impression was one of them. I don't get to make another one each year, along with all the other growing that's done and memories that are made in a years' time. I also saw a tiny pair of moccasin baby shoes. I like those kind of shoes for myself because they are so cozy and cute...and I realized if Lily were here, I'd get her a matching pair...but there will never be a reason to buy those shoes for her...

Another year is coming to a close...another year without her...another step farther from her. 2010 was "the year of Lily." Before we know it, it will be 2013, the year she should be turning 3. I don't know, it just feels like so much distance is coming between us. Yes, things get easier with each holiday that passes...yet in a way, things get harder. Because of the time and distance weighing heavily on my heart...

Oh my sweet girl, how I'm missing you today and everyday...but this time of year, that ache is a little more pronounced. I wish you were here to see all the lights, eat some yummy turkey and mac&cheese and listen to the beautiful music...no matter how far away you seem or how far I get from the last time I held you, I will love you forever and a day. You will always be mine and I will always be yours...the moment you came to be in this world, we were tied together in a way no words could ever describe...we are linked together for Eternity...and Eternity is where we will celebrate Jesus together.
