Sanctity of Life Sunday '13

Today is National Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. The date was chosen by Ronald Reagan to coincide with the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court case. He issued the day to fall on the third Sunday of January in the years following, the closest date that coincides with the original January 22nd date.

Each year in Washington D.C., the March for Life is also right around the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Thousands of people join in to take a stand for unborn life. Lots of people even share their stories of regretted abortion...including me this year! That's right, I am driving to D.C. to take part in the March and will be sharing my story in front of the Supreme Court after with the Silent No More Awareness Campaign! Thank you, Lord, for this opportunity. I will share more about this later this week. If you are anywhere near the D.C. area, I recommend taking part in the day! If you will be there, let me know so we can meet up! :)

Today, my mom, brother, and I went to a special service for Sanctity of Life Sunday. A Professor of Theology was giving a special message on Psalm 139. He wasn't the main Pastor of the church.  I looked online a few weeks before today, looking for churches around the area who were having special services, and this is the only one I found! And I live in the capital city of my state. It makes me really sad that more churches aren't speaking out on the topic of abortion. The CEO from a local Pregnancy Center shared some, which was really powerful, and she said this church was the only one who asked her to come speak! If the Church isn't standing up for the unborn and speaking out for LIFE, then who is?! I suggest spreading the word to your Pastors and telling them the significance of this day and how they can take a stand for LIFE each year. But, it shouldn't end with just one day a year. We as the Church of Christ need to be pouring ourselves out for the cause of the unborn. We need to be giving our time, money, and whatever else God asks of us to Pregnancy Centers, homes for pregnant teenage girls, etc. Don't just sit around waiting for something to happen - pray and ask the Lord how He wants you to move and be obedient. Ask for God's heart for the unborn, the men and women in unplanned pregnancies, and those already affected by abortion.

After the service, I spoke with the lady from the Pregnancy Center about the possibility of volunteering there. I am praying that if this is the Center where the Lord wants me that He will make it happen.

Life and the Protection of it

I realize what I am about to write is not politically correct, yet it must be discussed nonetheless. 

There was a precious bird's nest in our garage with the tiniest baby birds I've ever seen. The nest was so elaborate and beautiful and it was obvious that the parents spent lots of time preparing it and making it just right. Last night, my brother was walking through the garage and looked in to see the birds, only to find a giant snake wrapped around the helmet the bird's nest was in. We were all devastated to hear that a snake had eaten these tiny, defenseless baby birds. Why am I sharing this? 

Well, it's got me thinking. Anyone who reads this can agree that it's sad what happened to these baby birds. But, that's just it...they were just baby birds. Do we feel the same amount of sadness when we hear about babies being aborted in a Planned Parenthood right down the road from us? Or have we grown accustomed to it? Do we suffer from depraved indifference? 

I saw this picture on facebook yesterday and it goes along with this.

What sort of a world is it that protects the forests, the eagles, the whales, yet legally disposes of human life? The same people that passionately fight for the protection of whales, at the same time are just as passionate about "women's rights." Yes, they are all part of God's creation. Yet, they are just animals and nature. They are not created in the very image of God, like precious unborn babies.

In the latest Set Apart Girl online magazine, there is an article called "When Going Green Goes Too Far."  (I highly recommend reading this!) Leslie Ludy talks about how two girls outside of Whole Foods were stopping each person to tell them about 50 whales off the coast of Japan who they were fighting to rescue. How ironic that people get so passionate about the rescue of animals, yet they forget the 163 million orphans around the world, the little girls forced into slave prostitution in Cambodia and South America, and the 1.2 million babies aborted in this country alone each year!

Have you gotten caught up in what the culture says about "saving the planet" that you are exalting creation over Creator? Have you allowed your heart to grow cold to abortion because you've gotten so accustomed to it? May this not be so!! Ask God to break your heart for what breaks His and make your heart beat as one with His. May we fight for these helpless ones!! May we not rest until they are protected!

Have you hopped on the "save-the-planet" bandwagon? God has bigger, more important battles for us to fight. This world is not our home (see Hebrews 11:13, 16 and 1 Peter 2:11.) Everything in this world is passing away, as it says in 1 Corinthians 7:31. All the whales and nature are temporal matters. Now, just to be clear, I am not saying we should be intentionally cruel or irresponsible, but we must get our priorities straight! The things of this world are passing away, yet the human souls are eternal! May we set our minds and hearts on eternal things! We are to set our mind on things above, not on earthly things. (see Colossians 3:2.)

"Of course, during the time we are temporarily on this earth, we should be considerate of what God has given us. There is no reason to trash and pollute the planet or disregard the lives of animals just because our citizenship is in Heaven. Christians who act this way are only living selfishly and failing to represent the nature of Christ." ~Leslie Ludy

God has given us stewardship over this earth and His creation and we are to take care of it. So, don't misquote me. However, may we keep things in perspective and always ask ourselves if we love creation or our Creator more. Are our hearts set on merely the here and now or eternity?

Jesus Himself gave His very life to rescue eternal souls.

"Paul said, 'For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified."'-1 Corinthians 2:2 If you make your life all about Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, your life will naturally be built around the right priorities. He will cause your burden for lost souls to be far greater than your burden for sick dolphins."  ~Leslie Ludy

Depraved Indifference

"Heroes are made because they are moved. Not in their head, but in their heart." -Eric Ludy

I have seen the Depraved Indifference video by Ellerslie Mission Society several times, but last Sunday, God began stirring my heart and opening my eyes afresh. I have always felt like it would be “more spiritual” to travel to another country as a missionary to rescue orphans and widows. I wondered why I didn’t feel called to that and if there is something wrong with that. Last Sunday, when I was in Colorado, the His Little Feet kiddos were at Ellerslie Church. They did a special performance for us and the tears were just streaming down my face. We watched Depraved Indifference and God whispered something to my heart...It doesn’t matter whether something seems “more spiritual,” what matters is living in obedience unto Him. And I know that He is not calling me (right now at least) overseas. He is asking me to rescue for His name and glory in the United States, in my own backyard. The unborn being aborted are orphans. They are weak and they are vulnerable, and so very precious in His sight.

definition of orphan: 

1. [noun] someone or something who lacks support or care or supervision
2. [adjective] deprived of parents by death or desertion

These unborn children are deserted by their mothers and fathers, the ones on earth who should love them and protect them above anyone else. They have no support or care from their parents. They are seen as a "problem" that needs to be taken care of.

"Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you." -Isaiah 49:15

Our earthly parents may forget us. These babies are not cared for and protected by their earthly parents, yet they are adored by their Heavenly Father! And how does He rescue them? Through us. We are His hands and feet.

"God says, you call yourself my body. I'm not there except through you. Your hands, those are my hands. Your feet, those are my feet. That heart, that's my heart. If it's not beating, my heart's not beating on this earth anymore. I work through my body. I'm a father to the fatherless through my body! I rescue the weak and the vulnerable through you! And if you're not doing it, no one is!" -Eric Ludy

God doesn't see the massive number of children that are aborted each year, but each individual life. He sees the purposes He has for that life. Do we?

There is a cast system in Heaven. Jesus came to earth and proved it by taking the lowest spot, He was born a baby, yet He was GOD! A baby…does this not show His heart for the unborn?

“The special ones in God’s Kingdom are the weak ones. The ones that can’t fight for themselves, the ones that can’t speak for themselves…the ones that don’t have someone to protect them. And Jesus says, ‘those are the prized ones. Treat them as the royalty here on earth. The way you treat them is ultimately the way you're treating me.' What you do unto the least of these is how your ultimately treating your God.” –Eric Ludy

"In as much as you have done unto the least of these you have done it unto me." -Matthew 25:45

An unborn baby in the womb is definitely the least among us. These precious lives literally cannot speak for themselves. There is a silent holocaust happening right down the road from us...and what are we doing about it? We suffer from depraved indifference. It may move us at some level, but does our heart bleed for these precious ones? We go home and can laugh and act as if all is well in the world. Yet, innocent babies are being ruthlessly slaughtered in our very neighborhoods! Are we willing to spend ourselves for the weak?

Jesus Christ is the only solution for us and for these unborn babies. Ask Him where He is leading you, who He is leading you to rescue. May we no longer sit by idly, but spend ourselves in order to rescue the least of these! Who will be a champion fighting for their cause? Will you? May we be moved beyond mere human compassion to action...for our King and His glory!

Each year in Washington D.C., there is a March for Life. Thousands of people join in to take a stand for unborn life. Lots of people even share their stories of regretted abortion. I haven't been yet, but I hope to make it an annual tradition, starting next year! If you are anywhere near the D.C. area, I recommend taking part in the special day!

The Spirit is Willing.

A Letter.

"A letter represents something far more than a kiss ever could. It evidences thoughtfulness and the gift of time. While a kiss can prove tender, it must overcome the stigma of impulsiveness to truly display love. A letter, on the other hand, when written in the spirit of ardor and romance-even if it never mentions passion-strokes the heart deeper than any other form of physical touch. A kiss cannot be felt again and again from great distance; but a letter can be read and reread thousands of times. A kiss only familiarizes lips with the physical body of a lover. A letter familiarizes the heart, mind, and soul. Maybe that's why God chose to write us a letter." ~Eric Ludy
