When Lily Went to Philly

7 years ago at this time of year, Lily went to Philly. I was right at 29 weeks pregnant at the time. ❤️

Earlier this week, I saw these two things on Facebook "Memories" that I posted in December 2009:

My mom, brothers, sister, Lily and I were together on this fun and memorable trip. We walked around downtown, got hot beverages at charming local coffee shops, explored historic/touristy destinations, tried the famous Philly cheesesteak sub, and stayed at the oldest hotel in the city. My mom and brothers went to an Eagle's football game.

I kept having contractions and we joked that "Lily wanted to be born in Philly." My belly was getting a lot bigger, to the point of not being able to button up my coat all the way, as you can see in the photo above. That makes me giggle. :) Lily was growing big and strong!

One of the first posts on this blog of mine was something I wrote when we were in Philadelphia - City of Brotherly Love. I talked about wanting to treasure the time with my family, especially my sister, who was growing up so fast... little did I know that I was living some of the only days with my daughter that I'd ever get. It never could have crossed my mind. I am so thankful my girl had lots of adventures during her time on Earth with her adoring family.

Here are some of my favorite photos from that trip...

I have several pages in Lily's scrapbook from our Philly trip. Excuse the bad-lighting photos with glaring (from the page protectors). I'll explain more about them when I eventually (hopefully sooner rather than later) share my entire scrapbook for Lily.

Oh, those little socks... we got them at the Betsy Ross House for our Lily girl. Now they will remain in a scrapbook, never having been worn by her. But they are so very precious to me as they were bought specifically for her... when she was still here.

When Lily Went to Philly

On Saturday night, I watched a few minutes of the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Washington Redskins football game on TV (my brother Joseph's favorite team is the Eagles and my brother Adam's favorite team is the Redskins. Otherwise, I wouldn't care haha).

Anyways, the game was in Philadelphia, which brought back memories of when Lily went to Philly at this very time of year 6 years ago. I was right at 29 weeks pregnant at the time.

Then, yesterday I saw these two things on Facebook "Memories" that I posted on that date in 2009:

Lily in Philly

This picture makes me smile. It was taken 5 years ago at this time, on one of the days between Christmas and New Year's Day, when I took a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with my mom, brothers, and sister. I wasn't far into my third trimester of pregnancy when Lily visited Philly. We had such a fun and memorable trip, walking around downtown, getting hot beverages at charming local coffee shops, exploring historic/touristy destinations, trying the famous Philly cheesesteak sub, and staying at the oldest hotel in the city. My mom and brothers went to an Eagle's football game. I kept having contractions and we joked that "Lily wanted to be born in Philly." City of Brotherly Love

Well, here I am...sitting here at the oldest hotel in Philadelphia, the city of brotherly love. It is historical, yet cozy and has all the 21st century amenities. The Eagles/Broncos game is playing on the seemingly out of place flat-screen HD TV and I am partly paying attention to it. Definitely an exciting game, (27-24 currently) considering it's Brian Dawkins' first year with the Broncos, playing on the opposing side of the Eagles at his beloved home stadium where he played so many times. Not only that, but my brothers and mom happen to be at the game, so we've been trying to spot them in the crowd. The SONY video camera has been put to good use the last couple days, capturing the historical essence of the city and forever recording the beautiful moments shared with family. Things are changing. I want to remember these times always. These times with my little sister, whose growing up all too fast. Right now, she's fifteen and going through the stage of make-up, hair straightening, stressing over clothes, and the world of iPods and laptops. Yet, she's still so little, so innocent. There's something so special about her. She doesn't seem to be affected by the world, as most fifteen-year-old girls are. What a blessing that is. I want to maintain that childlike innocence...Something none of us should lose with age. Yet, there's only so much I can do. She's going to have to go through hard things herself to realize what a cruel world this is. To realize how desperate she is for God. And then there's my twenty-five year old twin brothers. Living in North Carolina while they are in Virginia, I don't get to see them as much as I'd like. So, I value this time we're together. Joseph loves Philadelphia, he loves the Eagles. I'm really enjoying this time together as a family. It's so lovely here in Philly right after Christmas. All the lights are still up and it's quite enjoyable strolling the streets, stopping at cute little coffee shops for hot cider. I'll post more later...with pictures too.
